Section 4: Rules and References

HL7 Version 3 Standard: Core Principles and Properties of V3 Models, Release 2

DESCRIPTION

As The HL7 Version 3 Methodology matured, the responsible work groups realized that there was a "missing" specification. The "missing" specification should specify what are the essential features of the models on which V3 is based and how should these models be used to develop and to implement V3 specifications. This document is that "missing" specification. It specifies:

  • How each of the three models is conceived and represented and what is its role in supporting V3 specifications.
  • How and when the linkages or bindings between these models are defined and maintained.
  • How these models and their bindings are represented in instances of communication.
  • The responsibilities of developers and implementers for these models.
