HL7 Version 3 Domain Analysis Model: Diet and Nutrition Orders, Release 2
DESCRIPTION
Standards for the electronic transmission and exchange of nutrition orders including information on oral diets, enteral nutrition (tube feeding and infant formula) and oral nutritional supplements, along with food allergies, food intolerances and food preference information are required to safely provide inpatients or residents with nutritionally appropriate foods. To improve the interoperability of diet and nutrition order information across the continuum of care, it is critical that health care providers and sending and receiving system vendors have a clear understanding of the components involved in ordering, preparing and providing meal trays, formula feedings, and nutritional supplements to patients and residents. The purpose of the diet and nutrition orders domain analysis model is to describe the required data and flow of information needed for the development of other HL7 products in the nutrition domain such as version 3 RIM–based nutrition order clinical messages, FHIR resources and profiles, and Clinical Document Architecture nutrition templates using structured data. Release 2 has been updated with information on food and medication preferences which have an impact on nutrition orders. For this normative release, we have included new conformance criteria and the nutrition stakeholders and subject matter experts have all agreed that the DAM is complete and relevant regarding nutrition orders.
