Recommendations for HL7 Messaging Over Component Technologies (1998)

DESCRIPTION

Recommendations for HL7 Messaging Over Component Technologies Version 1.0, Rev. 9, January 12, 1998 (doc)  is a specification for a set of rules that enable users to describe  HL7 version 2.2 messages using Automation and OMG IDL specification styles.  One of its primary purposes is to demonstrate that it is possible to have a common specification so that mixed environments could operate employing the two technologies simultaneously.  This specification recommends the rules for mapping HL7 v2.X message structures to object-oriented structures.

DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND

The document is a recommendation, but it is not an HL7 standard, is not required for a vendor to claim conformance to HL7.  Users may choose to develop specifications that implement some, but not all of the parts of the recommendations.  The intended use of this document exactly parallels that of the Lower Layer Protocols specification that was published As appendix B of HL7 version 2.1 and as part of the Implementation Guides for versions 2.2 and 2.3.
