Highlights of the Use of the HL7 Standard
AIRA supports national and registry specific HL7 standards for the Immunization Information Systems (registry) community. The organization coordinates three (3) data exchange standards (HL7 related) workgroups that are led by volunteer members of AIRA. The workgroups are: a Messaging Workgroup, a Data Definitions (Vocabulary) Workgroup and a Transport Layer Workgroup. These workgroups meet monthly via conference call and carry on ongoing discussions and workgroup related activities through special interest group (SIG) pages on the AIRA web site. Workgroup goals include: 1) documenting and recommending enhancements based on balloted changes to the HL7 standard. 2) working with national public health information peers at the CDC to align HL7 standards with emerging public health information systems standards and 3) maintaining and updating the national Immunization Registry HL7 Messaging Standard. In addition, AIRA facilitates a monthly open forum about HL7 related issues and other data exchange standards topic areas.
