Mission
This Work Group supports the HL7 mission to create and promote its standards by recommending the methodology, format and tools for publishing the HL7 standards according to requirements established by the HL7 board, the Technical Steering Committee, ANSI accreditation and the needs of the HL7 membership.
Charter
Work Products and Contributions to HL7 Processes
The Publishing Work Group will make recommendations to the HL7 Technical Steering Committee (TSC) and the HL7 Board regarding the publishing of the HL7 standards. This work group does not make policy and is subject to the decisions of the TSC and Board.
This group will develop processes necessary to collect and exchange HL7 work group material during work group review and for the submission of these materials for balloting and subsequent publication.
This group will develop recommendations for the methodology, including standards for naming conventions and deliverables necessary to support the consistent publication of HL7 standards.
This group will develop recommendations for the presentation, technology, and formatting standards that will be used to publish HL7 standards.
This group is responsible for making recommendations regarding the publishing of all HL7 standards including Version 2.x, Version 3.x, CCOW, Arden Syntax, CDA, FHIR and all other associated standards published using the HL7 name.
This group is not responsible for the distribution or marketing of the completed, HL7 published material.
Formal Relationships With Other HL7 Groups
The Publishing Work Group is subject to oversight by the TSC.
The Publishing Work Group will work with the Architecture Review Board to make recommendations to ensure that the HL7 published standards follow the ARB recommendations to ensure the standards are internally congruent and consistent and appropriate measures of quality are implemented.
The Publishing Work Group will work with the Modeling and Methodology Work Group to make recommendations to ensure that the content developed according to the HL7 development methodologies (specifically V3 modeling and FHIR) are appropriately represented in relevant HL7 publications.
The Publishing Work Group will work with the Tooling Work Group to assure that publishing tools are in harmony with those developed by Tooling.
The Publishing Work Group will work with all HL7 Work Groups that are developing content that will be published with the HL7 name to make recommendations to ensure that their content is represented accurately in any publication. All HL7 work groups are responsible for ensuring adequate participation and representation in the publishing work group to support this objective.
The Publishing Work Group will work with the Electronic Services Work Group to coordinate the electronic representations of HL7 material.
The publishing work group will work with the Infrastructure and Messaging Work Group to assure that the published V2 standards comply with the principles defined in V2 Chapters 2 and 2a.
Publishing Work Group will work with the Conformance & Guidance for Implementation/Testing Work Group to assure that that the published V2 standards comply with the principles defined in V2 Chapter 2b.
