Description:
Starbrite is a Proof of Concept for the Single Source project and is located at the Duke Clinical Research Institute and Duke Clinic in Durham, NC. Single Source is an on-going project that seeks to use open standards (HL7 & CDISC) as the basis for developing a single-source workflow for clinical trials and clinical care. The current architecture develops a CDA document which is the source of the CRF (Case Report Form) data required by the trial and which doubles as the source of the clinical note entered into the patient chart. "Starbrite" is a small clinical trial which we are using for this first Proof of Concept.

Comments:
The primary technology partner for this project is Microsoft and the other technology partners are Digital Infuzion, Sentillion and TopSail Technologies. Looking forward to the next phase of Single Source, beyond Starbrite, we are developing a program called "Ringside" that encompasses technology partners and implementors as well as pharmaceutical companies and providers. Together, we are developing plans for the first pilot implementation, planned for late 2004.
