Description | This project will create a single graph traversal language which may be used to meet query language needs across HL7 families. In FHIR this language will meet the needs for specifying a path (FHIRPath). This will be incorporated in Clinical Quality Language (CQL), an HL7 STU for representing clinical quality logic, to add graph traversal functionality. The project will also examine whether other query requirements can be met as part of this initiative. This project will revise the following specification: HL7 Standard: Clinical Quality Language Specification, Release 1 Published May 20, 2015 The standard is being extended to support graph traversal requirements for use within the FHIR specification. The change is being made to ensure backwards compatibility with the existing specification. |

Project Intent | Revise Current Standard |
Project Need | There are numerous requirements within the FHIR specification for the use of a graph query language. These requirements overlap the requirements for Clinical Quality Language, but introduce additional requirements that are not met by CQL. This project will seek to meet the requirements into a single specification that is consistent with the goal of a general purpose language. This project will also seek to implement the proposed new language into existing FHIR and CQL tooling to determine whether the proposed language is meeting the respective needs. |
