HL7 - National Library of Medicine Contract Information

Sub-contracts Previously Awarded

HL7 is seeking to support the fulfillment of a contract with the National Library of Medicine. Proposals will be accepted for both volunteer and paid contractor participation.

Additional tasks will be posted and announced as the project progresses and specifications are created. The life of the contract is September 2004 – September 2007. The tasks described below are subject to change.

HL7-NLM Vocabulary Project Description          
  Characterize HL7 V2 Vocabulary Tables and V3 Value Sets 11/24/04 11/30/04 1 month

Required Skills: Expert knowledge of HL7 Version 2 and Version 3 messages, of Frank Oemig’s database, and the V2 and V3 HL7 vocabulary tables. SQL programming, Skilled in use of MS Access databases.

Desired Skills:  Familiarity with common use of HL7 messages. Familiarity with UMLS semantic types.

Klein Consulting Inc.
  Export current HL7 Vocabulary Content into UMLS RRF tables 12/06/04 12/13/04 1 month

Required Skills: Expert knowledge of HL7 Version 2 and Version 3 vocabulary tables. Expert knowledge of the UMLS Rich Release Format (RRF) tables. Knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Access databases. Knowledge of additional scripting and/or transformation languages as required.

Desired Skills: Familiarity with common use of HL7 messages. Familiarity with UMLS semantic types.

Required Skills: Expert knowledge of HL7 Version 2 and Version 3 vocabulary tables, Knowledge of the UMLS content and identifier structure, Familiarity with UMLS and other semantic toolsets, Knowledge of SQL and XML data structures. Desired Skills: Implementation of HL7 query-response interactions between information systems.

In-depth knowledge of one or more of the existing EHR information exchange implementations is expected, as is familiarity with the activities of the EHR TC and message development activities within HL7. Technical writing experience.

Seeking public comment:  The NLM EHR steering committee is asking interested parties to submit comments on the best way to break this contract up into 2-3 smaller parts each of which would extend the previous part but produce a complete deliverable on it’s own.
