HL7 Version 3 Domain Analysis Model: Behavioral Health Record, Release 2
DESCRIPTION
The Behavioral Health Domain Analysis project is evaluating the currency and comprehensiveness of Health Level 7 (HL7) Behavioral Health and Social Service standards against emergent requirements in the United States (U.S.) and internationally. This DAM is a step toward the integration of specialty behavioral health treatment information with other health and human service agency providers.
The principal goals of this release (Release 2) are to expand the existing Behavioral Health Domain Analysis::
- To improve the health of at-risk populations by improving care coordination between specialty behavioral health, primary care, and related human services providers, through systems interoperability
- To improve provider performance accountability
- To support emerging Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs)
The specification is a harmonized analysis of data requirements for behavioral health services and outcomes. This analysis will be used to develop interoperability specifications and reference implementations to support continuity of care among behavioral health and human services agency providers as well as to satisfy outcomes reporting requirements to public agencies that pay for services and monitor the public's health.
This release enhances the content of Release 1 intended reporting the health, socio-economic and functional status of clients who receive behavioral health and social services.
The main purpose of this domain analysis model is to support the development of interoperability specifications (e.g., CDA Implementation Guides, HL7 Version 2, or FHIR) and software to support continuity of care (transfer between Behavioral Health providers and Behavioral Health and Primary Care providers) as well as quality reporting requirements.
ALTERNATIVE NAMES
HL7 Version 3 Domain Analysis Model: Behavioral Health Record, Release 2 may also go by the following names or acronyms:
TARGETS
- Standards Development Organizations (SDOs)
- Healthcare Institutions (hospitals, long term care, home care, mental health)
- Local and State Departments of Health
BENEFITS
- Provides a step toward the integration of specialty behavioral health treatment information with other health and human service agency providers. The DAM is an information model that will serve as the basis for the development of interoperable functional models, service specifications, CDA Implementation Guides, and message definitions that support coordination of care, public health reporting, quality and outcomes measures and billing.
