Section 2: Clinical and Administrative Domains
HL7 Version 3 Domain Analysis Model: Cardiology, Release 2
DESCRIPTION
Data standards support seamless interchange of electronic information within the healthcare environment. The purpose of the cardiovascular domain analysis model (CV DAM) is to facilitate collection of structured data during the care delivery process as well as collection of secondary uses of data. The overall data standards program intends to expand the breadth and depth of cardiology content within HL7 for future development of subsequent products such as EHR functional requirements, RIM messages, clinical document architecture and research representations.
ALTERNATIVE NAMES
HL7 Version 3 Domain Analysis Model: Cardiology, Release 2 may also go by the following names or acronyms:
TARGETS
- Standards Development Organizations (SDOs)
- Pharmaceutical Vendors
- EHR and PHR Vendors
- Healthcare Institutions (hospitals, long term care, home care, mental health)
BENEFITS
- Provide a view of the domain semantics in a form that is both understandable to subject matter experts and robust enough to inform technologists building solutions within the domain
- Promote semantic interoperability across organizations and systems
IMPLEMENTATIONS/CASE STUDIES
- Facilitates the capture and reuse of data collected at the point of care for secondary uses in research, registry collection and regulatory reporting
- Promotes information exchange, aggregation and reuse with the use of common data standards in international registries, submissions to regulatory agencies, electronic health records and clinical trials
DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND
The CV DAM 2.1 represents a compilation of updates to the original acute coronary syndromes focused CV DAM content as well as several additions in the areas vascular therapy, imaging and electrophysiology. The intent of the updated release was to further describe the clinical domain in a way that supports the repurposing of data across multiple secondary uses. The content was taken from a variety of existing data sources including large national registries, consensus documents published by cardiovascular professional societies and endpoint definitions from the FDA. Recognizing the wealth of existing clinical data definitions, the content development methodology focused on harmonizing domain-specific clinical data standards and representing them in a way that technical standards developers and implementers could use them.
