The Public Health Data Standards Consortium (PHDSC or Consortium) - a voluntary confederation of federal, state and local health
agencies, national and local professional associations and public and private sector organizations - launched a voluntary Ad Hoc Task
Force on Electronic Health Record-Public Health (EHR-PH) in an attempt to provide a public health perspective in the evaluation of
the HL7 EHR functional model. These documents represent the Consortium's efforts to bring a common voice from the public health community
to the national efforts of standardization of health and healthcare information.

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- March 11, 2004 -- Health Level Seven (HL7) recently announced that the second ballot on the
HL7 Electronic Health Record-System Functional Model Draft Standard for Trial Use (EHR-S DSTU) is slated to open on March 18,
2004. The ballot will be available for comment until April 16 and the results will be announced during HL7's upcoming working group
meeting, May 2-7, 2004 in San Antonio, TX.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released a position letter regarding the HL7 EHR SIG standards
development activities related to the EHRS Functional Model. The focus of the letter involves the HL7 EHR SIG's
efforts toward the inclusion of the Care Setting and Use Profiles as reference material in the ballot package, as per
the San Diego agreement.

was reviewed by the Electronic Health Record Special Interest Group (EHR SIG) at the Health
Level Seven (HL7) Annual Plenary and Working Group Meeting September 7-12 in Memphis. The

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- July 18, 2003 -- Health Level Seven (HL7), one of the world's leading healthcare standards
developers, has joined with public and private healthcare leaders in the development of an Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Functional Model. Support for this work is provided by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of
Veterans Affairs (VA) and Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), as well as through a grant from The Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation. Collaborators on the project include the Institute of Medicine (IOM), HIMSS, and members of the Health Level
Seven community, representing a broad sector of the healthcare community. The IOM and HL7 collaboration focuses on the HL7-developed
EHR Systems Functional Model & Standard, with IOM recommending the high-level, care-related functionalities for the EHR in
