Logging In

The DSTU Commenting application, which is part of the HL7 website, is designed for both HL7 members and non-members. If you are an HL7 Member in good standing and are properly logged into the HL7 website, you will not need to do anything more with regard to using the DSTU Commenting web application. If you are a member and this web application is telling you that you must login, more than likely your HL7 website cookie has been deleted or corrupted in some way and efforts to resolve that should be the priority. Once that is corrected, this web application will recognize you as an HL7 member and log you in automatically.

If you are not an HL7 member, you will need to create a "commenting" profile, which this web application will point out for you. Creating this profile serves two purposes; one is to provide security and the other is provide information necessary so that we can follow-up on your comments.

Remember that you will see your name in the heading of every page if you are properly logged in.

Entering or Reviewing Comments

There are several easy steps to reviewing or submitting comments for a DSTU.

  1. Make sure you are logged in. You will see your name at the top of the page if you are logged in.
  2. From the DSTU Comments home page, click the standard you want to review.
  3. You should now be at the DSTU Detail page which provides more information about the DSTU you have selected. Below that, if any are available, will be comments that have already been submitted. To select a comment for further review (only partial information is available here) simply hover over it with your mouse and click it.
  4. You should now be reviewing the comment in more detail and should find an Options box on the interface that provides you with access to features you can use. Most common among these are:
    • Edit this comment (if it is yours)
    • Return to the list of Comments

Remember that you can submit and edit your own comments. Other peoples comments can be reviewed but not altered.

Navigation and Help

The DSTU Commenting system has some navigation options of which you should be aware. Key areas to look for on any page would be to the right and at the top-right corner. There you will find helpful "boxes" (as illustrated on this page) of information that may contain hyperlinks for more information as well as nagivation "boxes" (also illustrated here) that provide help and options appropriate to the page you are viewing.

Both of these "box" types appear differently. In a help box, you may find hyperlinks that will be clearly designated as such, usually both in color and form. In a navigation or option box, items that are available can be "hovered" over by your mouse and clicked, much the same as you would any other hyperlink.
