Project: A Clinical Document Based Data Repository

Description:

Our project is broken into phases. The first phase was to perform a “proof of concept” within Baylor. The objective of this phase was to install and develop a small XML clinical document repository (100,000 documents) utilizing input from an existing production system using component software from Sequoia Software.

The goal was to demonstrate that information identified to the repository was both searchable and accessible through a web front end, simulating a future scenario where the XML clinical document repository would become the primary data source for a portal. This phase was completed in 90 days in April 1999. At the end of that time we accomplished all of our objectives.

We next moved into the development of our Pilot phase. During this phase we will make a production version of the implementation available to a limited user populations. We have recently completed the specifications for this phase and we are currently finishing our project plans.

This phase is complicated by the need to integrate with an external clinical portal vendor.
