XML encoding rules of HL7 v2 messages - v2.xml

Objective of v2.xml

The objective of this specification is to present encoding rules for HL7 Version 2.3.1, 2.4, 2.5 and future 2.x messages based on the Extensible Markup Language XML that could be used in environments where senders and receivers both understand XML. The v2.xml specification aims to act as a second normative encoding for v2.3.1, v.2.4 and v2.5 (and future releases of the HL7 v2.x standard).

v2.xml XML Schema and DTD Technical Correction #4 (January 3, 2004)

Technical corrections are availbale for both the XML schemas and the DTDs for the following versions of HL7

This technical correction introduces schemas and DTDs for version 2.5 for the first time. The underlying HL7 Version 2 database has been redesigned to explicitly be able to represent segment group names (among other things) as shown in the standard. The derivation algorithms have been rewritten to use the advantages of the new database design. The standard specification itself, the v2.xml Specification (ANSI/HL7 V2 XML-2003) remains untouched.

v2.xml XML Schema and DTD Technical Correction #3 (July 30, 2003)

Technical corrections are availbale for both the XML schemas and the DTDs for the following versions of HL7

v2.xml XML Schema and DTD Technical Correction #2 (March 24, 2003)

Technical corrections are availbale for both the XML schemas and the DTDs for the following versions of HL7

v2.xml XML Schema and DTD Technical Correction #1 (February 21, 2003)

According to the 1st Membership Level Ballot of the v2.xml specification a technical corrections are availbale for both the XML schemas and the DTDs for the following versions of HL7

v2.xml 1st Membership Level Ballot (December 2002)

From December 2002 to January 2003 the 1st Membership Level Ballot of the v2.xml specification is performed.

v2.xml 2nd Committee Level Ballot (April 2002, was originally announced as a 1st membership ballot)

From March to April 2002 a 2nd Committee Level Ballot of the v2.xml specification was performed. This ballot was originally announced as a membership level ballot, but was really a 2nd committee level ballot.

v2.xml 1st Committee Level Ballot (September 2001)

From August to September 2001 a 1st Committee Level Ballot of the v2.xml specification was performed. The focus of this specification is on implementation and addresses the translation between standard encoded and XML encoded HL7 version 2.x describing the underlying rules and principles. Creation of the corresponding XML schemas and DTDs is still provided as an appendix.

Informative Document (predecessor of the v2.xml specification)

As a predecessor of the v2.xml specification, an Informative Document was released in 2000 that outined the principles of a possible XML encoding for v2.3.1 messages and that focussed on the creation of DTDs. The Informative Document is depreciated since the release of the 1st Committee Level Ballot specification of v2.xml (but still downloadable here).
