Description | HL7 has developed and maintained a set of schemas called the Model Interchange Format (MIF) since 2002. This set of schemas defines the syntax for HL7 artifact exchange and is broadly used as a persistence and exchange syntax by HL7 tools. The schemas also include rigorous documentation defining each property of every type of artifact HL7 develops and maintains. In the last 6 months, a number of HL7 members have been working with the OMG to document the underlying requirements that justify each element in the MIF. The MIF has been subject to peer review in the past and is maintained by the tooling committee via a formal process managed through g-Forge. However, there have recently been indications that more formal approval is needed. This project will publish the 'in use' portions of the MIF as it exists at the time of ballot together with its supporting requirements and seek member endorsement as an Informative Standard as both an exchange syntax and as a formal representation of HL7's metamodel. |
